Beware of Dirty Dirt: "Free Clean Fill" May Contain Contaminants

Morris County Prosecutor's Office passes on an NJ Department of Environmental Protection warning that some “clean fill,” either sold or offered free of charge, may contain contaminants that should not be on residential property. Advertisements on social media may be an attempt to skirt the 2022 law that requires registering, storing and/or properly disposing of these materials.

Two Parcels, 52 Forested Acres, Preserved in Washington Township

A 37-acre wooded property has been permanently preserved that will help connect Washington Township-owned open space parcels and serve as the entry point for a future trail system. The property is near a recently-preserved, 15-acre parcel with both purchases being made possible by the Morris County Open Space Trust Fund, state Green Acre dollars and the Washington Township Open Space program.

Morris County 2022 Open Space Grant Applications Now Available

Morris County Commissioners Approve Four Open Space Grants

The Morris County Board of County Commissioners last night approved $1.3 million to acquire and preserve a total of 43 acres in 2021 Open Space projects spanning four towns. The properties involved are located in Dover, Montville, Chatham Township and Parsippany Township, and range in sizes from one-fifth of an acre to nearly 20 acres.

Rutgers Master Gardeners of Morris Win International Award

Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Morris County is proud to announce that the Rutgers Master Gardener Community Garden Integrated Pest Management Team has won 1st Place in the 2021 David Gibby International Master Gardener Conference Search for Excellence, Innovative Projects Category. This team of volunteers regularly inspects plots in Morris County community gardens to identify insects, diseases.

Mosquito Control Answers the Call

Morris County Mosquito Control has received 1,028 calls for assistance since the day after the remnants of Hurricane Ida swept through the state. Less than 100 might come in during a normal September.

Abandoned Dumpster to be Removed From Whippany River

The Whippany River Watershed Action Committee announced today that a 20-foot trash container tossed into the Whippany River in Morristown by Tropical Storm Irene will be removed on Aug 3 through a philanthropic partnership with Global Container Terminals of Hudson County and Kyle Conti Construction of Hillsborough Township. The companies are donating their time and services.

Public Invited to "Patriot’s Path Great Morristown Greenway" Meeting

The Morris County Park Commission will hold a public information session next month on the Patriot’s Path Great Morristown Greenway Project, which proposes enhancing pedestrian and bicycle safety along nearly a mile section of the path between Martin Luther King Avenue and Speedwell Avenue. The “Public Information Center” will be held virtually on Aug. 26, 2021, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
