Winter Weather Update -- Sunday 5 p.m. -- Governor Issues Statewide State of Emergency

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning/Hazardous Weather Outlook which is in effect from 3 p.m. today until 7 a.m. on Monday.(JPG, 17KB)

The Winter Storm Warning means that travel conditions could be very hazardous, difficult, or impossible. The current forecast data suggests we will start with a mix of snow and rain later that already has begun this afternoon with a changeover to all snow as the temperatures drop.

Later this evening, snow will become heavy at times with possible snowfall rates of up to one-inch per hour, and with the bulk of the accumulation occurring between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. The snow is expected to lighten up around midnight, and will continue to taper off into the predawn hours.

While the snow is anticipated to end before the Monday morning commute, hazardous road conditions may still exist from the heavy snow overnight. Current weather models show a snowfall range of four-to-six inches and six-to-nine inches, dependent on location, elevation, etc.

The Morris County Office of Emergency Management will continue to monitor the inbound storm system.

The County of Morris is in full prep mode at this time, with both our Morris County road team and outside contractors in deployment.

(JPG, 86KB)Fire Hydrants: Also, remember to clear snow from areas around fire hydrants. When shoveling, please shovel a 3-foot diameter around all fire hydrants so our fire personnel can to quickly connect their hoses to the hydrants in the event of a fire.
