The National Weather Services has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook and Winter Storm Warning for northern New Jersey through 2 a.m. on Thursday. The more significant storm activity is not expected until after 9 a.m.
We anticipate that we will experience periods of heavy snow. The current models show 8-to-14-inches, with periods of 1-to-2-inches per hour.
We expect difficult travel conditions with significant reductions in visibility. Some roadways and hilly areas may become impassable. Power outages are also possible.
The N.J. State Police announced a commercial vehicle travel ban which went into effect last evening, Tuesday, March 20, at 8:00 p.m., for the entire length of following roadways:
The commercial vehicle travel ban applies to:
- All tractor-trailers
- Empty straight CDL-weighted trucks
- Passenger vehicles pulling trailers
- Recreational vehicles
- Motorcycles
Trucks already in New Jersey are encouraged to use truck stops or rest areas during the ban. In order for road crews to effectively plow, drivers should not park on shoulders.
Residents and motorists should avoid driving on all roadways unless you are an essential employee needed for emergency response. If you do not have to be on the roads during the storm, please stay home. If you must go out, drive slowly, fill your gas tank, charge your phone, pack blankets, water and non-perishable food items.
Stay Safe!
