United Way to Hold Countywide Caregivers Conference in Whippany on Saturday, April 29

FREE EVENT IS OPEN TO ALL MORRIS COUNTY RESIDENTS €“ MUST PRE-REGISTER
(JPG, 7KB) United Way of Northern New Jersey will hold its 10th Annual Caregivers Conference this Saturday morning, April 29, to provide caregivers from across Morris County and Northwest Jersey with information and resources critical to their role of caring for their loved ones.
The free conference will include presentations and offer resources geared towards non-paid caregivers who assist persons of all ages who are ill, frail or have a disability or mental illness. It will explore topics that provide family caregivers with valuable information from local experts.
Conference space is limited so register online as soon as possible.
"We thank the United Way Caregivers' Coalition for their efforts on behalf of so many county residents who struggle to 
(JPG, 7KB)ensure the care of their loved ones,'' said Morris County Freeholder Kathy DeFillippo, the county governing board's liaison on human services issues.
"While the care is offered with love, we understand that it can be difficult, time consuming, and extremely tiring and wearing on caregivers, many of whom may be caring for older and younger family members at the same time.''
"Whether caring for an aging loved one or a loved one of any age with physical, developmental, or psychiatric disabilities, caregivers often find themselves in this role without preparation or education," said United Way Caregivers Coalition Manager Stephanie Howland. "United Way is dedicated to ensuring caregivers within our communities have access to the supports and resources they need. This conference brings in legal experts to help caregivers understand the key legal documents they need to have in place."
There are approximately 225,000 caregivers in Northern New Jersey.

(JPG, 27KB)The United Way Caregivers Coalition has produced its first regional edition of the comprehensive caregiving guide, "Pathways for Caregivers." It is a one-of-a-kind resource full of information, advice, and ideas about how to get the support caregivers need for their caregiving journey.
It includes separate sections on caring for loved ones who are aging, have disabilities, or mental health issues. There is also information about veterans' services.
While written to assist caregivers in North Jersey, much of the contents are applicable to caregivers all throughout New Jersey and beyond.
