Separate Car and Truck Detours Needed for Closure of Bridge Over Drakes Brook
The New Jersey Department of Transportation today announced that Route 206 is scheduled to be closed and detoured for at least 10 days, starting July 6, to replace the bridge over Drakes Brook in Mount Olive.
Beginning at 8 p.m., Friday, July 6, NJDOT's contractor, Konkus Corp., is scheduled to close Route 206 in both directions between Four Bridges Road/Hillside Road and Bartley-Chester Road/Hillery Drive. The closure will be 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for at least 10 days or until the bridge is completed.
The road closures and detours were planned to coincide with the end of the West Morris Central High School semester and the beginning of the high school summer sports program. The closure also will not interfere with the July 4th holiday. The project is expected to be completed in early August.
The $2.8 million dollar federally-funded project will replace the deck and approaches to the bridge, as well as make substantial repairs to the superstructure. State inspection determined that the bridge deck was in poor condition and required replacement.
Separate car and truck detours will be in place and temporary traffic signals were installed at the following intersections:
- Bartley Chester Road/CR 625, Bartley Road and Bartley Flanders Road/CR 612
- Bartley Chester Road/CR 625 and South Four Bridges Road
Car Detour southbound
- Cars traveling on Route 206 southbound will be directed to turn right onto Bartley Chester Road/CR 625
- Left onto Bartley Road at the temporary traffic signal
- Left onto South Four Bridges Road at the temporary traffic signal to Route 206
Car Detour northbound
- Cars traveling on Route 206 northbound will be directed to turn left onto Four Bridges Road
- Right onto Bartley Road/CR 625 at the temporary traffic signal
- Right onto Bartley Chester Road/CR 625 to Route 206 at the temporary traffic signal
Truck Detour southbound
- Trucks traveling on Route 206 southbound will be directed to turn right onto Bartley Flanders Road/CR 612
- Right onto Bartley Road/CR 625 at temporary traffic signal
- Left onto South Four Bridges Road at temporary traffic signal to Route 206
Truck Detour northbound
- Trucks traveling on Route 206 northbound will be directed to turn left onto Four Bridges Road
- Right onto Bartley Road/CR 625 at the temporary traffic signal
- Left onto Bartley Flanders Road/CR 612 at temporary traffic signal
- Right onto 613 to Route 206
NJDOT is using Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) techniques to reduce the time it will take to replace the bridge. The project was designed in three stages to minimize effects to traffic. The project is in its final stage and the only one that required a full road closure.
Variable message signs are being utilized to provide advance notification to the motoring public of all traffic pattern changes associated with the work.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
