Resurfacing of Three Major Morris County Intersections Set to Start Next Week --Weather Permitting

Ridgedale and Hanover Avenue at Hanover/Morris Twp. Border Starts Monday

The conclusion of Morris County's 2017 road resurfacing program is scheduled to commence next week with the start of work on three intersections €“ including two of the county's busiest interchanges at East Hanover Avenue and Ridgedale Avenue in Hanover and Morris Township, and at Columbia Turnpike and Park Avenue in the same two towns.

Moris County Freeholders road resurfacing signsAlso on the schedule is resurfacing of the Myrtle Avenue and Wooton Street intersection in Boonton.

However, county engineers are cautioning that cold temperatures could delay the work, or even push the intersection work to the 2018-paving season, especially since the work is planned to be done during colder evening and overnight hours.

The public will be notified if the work is delayed.

This is the current milling and paving intersections' schedule:

Nov. 6 and 7: East Hanover Avenue and Ridgedale Avenue;

Nov. 8-9: Columbia Turnpike and Park Avenue;

Nov. 10: Myrtle Avenue and Wootton Street.

All work is planned for 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. to minimize traffic delays. The contractor for this jointly bid project is Tilcon. The bid price for all three intersections is $383,300.

We'd like to thank county residents in advance for their patience in dealing with the temporary inconveniences that will be caused by these intersection projects,'' said Morris County Freeholder John Cesaro, the county governing board's liaison on roads and bridges.

This work is necessary to deal with deteriorating road conditions at these extremely important intersections. There is no good time to do it, so we have scheduled the work to be done at nights and early mornings, and will work closely with our contractors and local police to cause minimum inconvenience,'' Freeholder Cesaro added.

  • Whippany Road, Hanover: Milling is being completed and paving started today, Wednesday, Nov. 1, on the 1.4-mile project that runs from Mt. Vernon Way to Oak Ridge Drive (past Bayer Corp. and Whippany Park High School). Tilcon is the contractor. The bid price is $622,200. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists should expect delays.
  • West Main Street/Hawkins Place, Boonton: Milling and paving are done, and striping is underway on the 1-mile project, which runs from Fairview Avenue to Boonton Avenue. The contractor is J.A. Alexander. The bid price is $395,694.
  • Main Street, Chapel Hill Road and Comly Road, Lincoln Park: Paving and milling are complete, with striping underway on the one-half mile project that includes Main Street, from Boonton Turnpike to Comly Road; Chapel Hill Road, from Boonton Turnpike to Main Street; and Comly Road, from Boonton Turnpike to Main Street. Mark Paving Co. is the contractor. The bid price is $275,080.
