County Road Crews Set to Salt and Clear County Roads

The Morris County Office of Emergency Management continues to focus on the expected weekend storm which is set to arrive Saturday evening. The data that we have reviewed so far suggests that snow is expected to last into Sunday morning, with an expecting a snow/sleet mix and even some occasional rainfall.

Snow showers may linger as late as 9-10 a.m. on Sunday, with snow possibly picking back up again Sunday afternoon. Total snowfall amounts are currently expected to be in the 3-inch to 6-inch range.(JPG, 17KB)

However, the track of this storm will have a huge impact on snow totals; a more southerly track will allow cooler air to stay in our area and allow for more snowfall, up to 10inches. The opposite is true for a more northerly track, which will allow warmer temperatures in our area and more rain, with significantly less snowfall.

Another issue as this storm exits is the rapidly cooling temperatures, so any wet areas will be susceptible to flash freezes.

Winds are expected to pick up early Sunday morning, with gusts of 30-40 mph possible through much of the day on Sunday. The Morris County Office of Emergency Management will continue to monitor this storm and provide updates as necessary.

Morris County government road crews are prepared for the weekend storm, and will be ready with salt and plows to keep all county roads clear and safe. Crews were out on Thursday evening and this morning dealing with the light snow that covered the county. (Municipal and state crews are responsible for most local roads and state highways).
