Morris Roads: Rte23 Ramp to I-287 Closed Through Next Week

Detour Expected to Remain in Place in Riverdale

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced the continued closure and detour of the Route 23 southbound ramp to I-287 southbound for additional drainage repairs in Riverdale.

The emergency repairs to replace a collapsed drainage pipe, which caused a sinkhole in the ramp from Route 23 southbound to I-287 southbound, began on March 14. The initial repairs included the replacement of 80 feet of drainage pipe measuring 42 inches in diameter, curb and inlet repairs, and paving.

Additional repairs will continue, including the replacement of an additional 170-foot long section of 42-inch diameter drainage pipe, and replacement of eight inlets. There also will be additional curb repair and paving.

The work is expected to be completed and the ramp reopened next week. The following detour remains in place:

Route 23 southbound ramp to I-287 southbound detour:

· Motorists wishing to take the ramp to I-287 southbound will be directed to continue on Route 23 southbound

· Take the next exit for I-287 northbound

· Take the first exit for Route 23 northbound

· Take the first exit for I-287 southbound

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
