Northbound Route 287 Lane Closure Overnights Tonight and Friday Night

Overnight lane closures on I-287 Northbound will begin tonight, April 9, to implement a traffic shift as a pavement preservation project on the highway advances in Somerset and Morris counties, the New Jersey Department of Transportation has announced.(PNG, 7KB)

From 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. tonight and again on Friday night, NJDOT's contractor, Della Pello Paving, will close the left lane and shoulder on I-287 northbound beginning near Exit 22/Route 202/206 in Bedminster through Exit 35/South Street in Morristown.

The closure is necessary to restripe the roadway in preparation for a traffic shift. Next week, lane closures will continue overnight to place construction barrier to allow for guiderail and parapet improvements.

Once the traffic shift is in place, it will remain for approximately two months.

The $18 million federally-funded project is designed to preserve 13 miles of I-287 northbound. It should extend the functional life of the road and improve ride quality. In addition, guiderail will be upgraded to meet current requirements.

This stage of the work is expected to be completed in the summer.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.

Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel informational-time travel information.
