Morris Prosecutor: Huddle Program Hosted by African American Clergy Association

FORMER GIANTS GM SPEAKS TO YOUTH

Former New York Giants Vice President and General Manager Jerry Reese was the guest speaker at the recent The Huddle: Calling the Right Plays to Win event sponsored by the African-American Clergy Association of Morris County.

Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp, First Assistant Prosecutor Tom Zelante, and Detective Patrick LaGuerre the special program, held last Saturday, at the Church of God in Christ for All Saints in Morristown. The program focused on offering guidance to young men in the African-American community.

As the oldest of seven siblings from a poor family from Northwestern Tennessee, Reese said he learned early in life what it would take to succeed. He emphasized the important of a positive attitude and a strong sense of faith, especially for a young man.

Not unexpected, the heart of Reese's presentation came from his vast experience in the world of football. He challenged young men in the audience to build their own huddles, to join with people who are willing and excited to help them succeed in life.

Event organizer Pastor Jerry Carter of Calvary Baptist Church, who opened the morning with an inspirational prayer, explained the "Huddle'' event was the first installment of the quarterly programs the African American Clergy Association plan to host for the community.(JPG, 13KB)

The driving force behind this presentation, he said, was the Clergy Association's desire to reach out to the adolescent members of the community, with the hopes of inspiring them. Nearly have half of the audience were, in fact teens, and the rest of the audience was comprised of members of the clergy, as well as local businessmen and officials.

Following Reese's presentation, Prosecutor Knapp addressed the approximately sixty audience members, explaining his role as Chief Law Enforcement Officer of Morris County. He lauded The Huddle program and thanked Reese for his excellent presentation and interest in youth of the community.
