Morris Preservation Trust: 2021 Application Process Starts for Historic Properties

The Morris County Historic Preservation Trust Fund is now accepting grant applications for 2021 funding.

To be eligible for a matching grant, a historic resource must be listed or certified eligible for listing on the State Register or National Register of Historic Places. Eligible applicants are municipalities, qualified non-profit organizations and the county.

The Morris County Office of Planning and Preservation will hold a workshop to explain the application process onWednesday, Jan. 27, 2021, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. via WebEx:

Please register to attend the workshop with the Historic Preservation Program Coordinator Ray Chang at (973) 652-6679 or rchang@co.morris.nj.us. It will be an opportunity to ask questions about the program and suitability of projects such as:

  • Is my project eligible?
  • What kinds of projects were funded in the past?
  • Can cemeteries apply?
  • Are Construction Documents required for construction projects?
  • What if my project isn't currently listed on the National and New Jersey Registers?

Please note, the Historic Preservation Program is waiving the requirement for paper

submission for the 2021 grant applications, except where Preservation Plans and/or drawings/specs have not been reviewed previously by the County Consultant.

If you have such plans/documents, please submit one hard copy to the Preservation office and another copy directly to the program's consultant by March 26, 2021.

The program will provide a link through which all applicants can submit the digital application materials. Please note the time of receipt of your digital application will be considered the official time of submission of your application. Below are some important links to additional information.

Please be reminded that, for projects that have received Program funding for the preparation of Construction Documents, the following deadlines must be met to be considered for construction-related funds for the year 2021:

  • By January 14, 2021 (Thursday) "“ 75% Construction Documents must be delivered to Morris County for review.
  • By February 26, 2021 (Friday) "“ 100% Construction Documents must be delivered to Morris County for review.

Projects failing to meet the submittal dates will not be considered for construction funding in the 2021 funding round.

Those projects for which construction documents were prepared without Program funding are welcome to submit their construction documents for a preliminary review prior to the Grant Application deadline of March 26, 2021. They may also submit completed construction documents with their construction grant applications.
