Throughout the year, Whole Foods designates days to donate 5 percent of net sales to local nonprofit or educational organizations. The groups that benefit from these days are as varied as the communities themselves. Customers help support by simply purchasing at the assigned locations.

This month's theme is supporting Parks and Recreation, and Whole Foods' contribution will go towards the purchase of seeds, gardening equipment, and other necessities that will help expand the curriculum and hands-on activities of this popular children's gardening program.

Branching Out! is in its 46th gardening season, and encourages kids to get outside and get growing. Children learn how to plant their own gardens, tend to and harvest fresh produce and flowers, participate in creative projects and activities focused on healthy growing and eating, cook and taste the fruit of their labors, and more.

(PNG, 22KB)Kids also can attend cooking classes lead by certified chefs to learn a variety of a ways to prepare and eat their healthy plants. Sessions are held in the Spring, Summer, and Fall, and are open to both girls and boys ages 5 - 13.

Our organization is pleased to partner with The Morris Park Alliance, as we share many of the same core values, said Margie West, Regional Marketing Manager at Whole Foods. Providing kids with fun, educational activities within their community is so important, and we are delighted to support this program that gets kids outside and learning about growing healthy, organic food.
