Gen. Joseph Warren Revere Returns to the Willow at Fosterfields
(JPG, 21KB) Historian William R. Chemerka portrays General Joseph Warren Revere
On Sunday, May 21, from 1 to 3 p.m., noted author, educator, and historian William R. Chemerka, portrays General Joseph Warren Revere in a captivating presentation at Fosterfields Living Historical Farm in Morris Township.
In 1852, Revere purchased 88-acres and contracted to build the impressive Gothic Revival-style house, The Willows, to overlook his farm. Today, The Willows and its former owner still capture our imagination.
A grandson of the patriot Paul Revere, the general was a colorful €˜action figure' of his day. He engaged in far-flung adventures including encounters with pirates and slave traders, service in the Mexican War, rescues at sea, a meeting with Tsar Nicholas of Russia, business deals during the California Gold Rush; as well as, many narrow escapes.
During the Civil War, the general was badly wounded and later, court-martialed for actions taken at the Battle of Chancellorsville, VA.(JPG, 11KB)
Mr. Chemerka begins his first-person account of Revere in the Fosterfields Visitors Center auditorium, where light refreshments will be served. Tour Revere's 1854 house, and view its unique Gothic features in place for over 160 years.
Take an opportunity to speak informally with Chemerka, who authored General Joseph Warren Revere: The Gothic Saga of Paul Revere's Grandson, which debuted on C-SPAN.
The cost to attend the presentation and tour is $10, and prepayment is required. Space is limited; please make reservations by May 13. For more information and reservations, please call 973.326.7645.
