Morris Freeholders Proclaim October 2017 as Arts and Humanities Month in Morris County

Highlights the Importance of Art and Cultural Offerings for County Residents

The Morris County Board of Freeholders has issued a proclamation declaring October as Arts and Humanities Month 2017 in Morris County, and urging residents to explore new facets of the arts and humanities in their lives, and to begin a lifelong participation in the arts.

The proclamation stated that the arts and humanities embody much of the accumulated wisdom, intellect and imagination of humankind and allow us to explore ideas, express emotions and better appreciate cultures from around the world... adding beauty and balance to our lives... and contribute to a strong and healthy economic climate by stimulating economic activity and creating jobs.

"Morris Arts develops, supports and advocates on behalf of artists, art organizations and art experiences, and encourages participation on all levels,'' said Freeholder Cabana. If you have attended First Night Morris County, the Music Beyond Borders series, or the Meet Me in Morristown events, you have benefitted from their efforts.

"A strong arts community is important to our county's quality of life and also contributes to a healthy economic climate, making our county an attractive place to live and work,'' added Freeholder Christine Myers.

The proclamation recognized Morris Arts's efforts of developing, supporting and advocating on behalf of artists, arts organizations, and arts experiences'' through a variety of programming such as exhibits in the county government's Atrium Gallery, Arts in Education programs and artist residencies, Pumpkin Illumination, the Gateway Totem Project, and many others.

It also called attention to Morris County's diverse cultural community offers a wide range of music, theater, dance, visual arts, and is blessed with an abundance of outstanding arts organizations, historical sites, museums and other cultural venues €“ which make life in Morris County so vibrant, stimulating and inspiring....

During October, Morris Arts will be featuring the numerous cultural and arts events in Morris County on its website cultural calendar at www.morrisarts.org.
