Morris County Tourism Bureau Announces Fall 2017 Historical Programs

HAMILTON AND GHOSTS ON THE AGENDA

The Morris County Tourism Bureau welcomes you to participate in their annual fall historical programs, which will be held in October this season.

Morris Tourism logo(JPG, 68KB)Each of the three programs offers a look at the rich history in Morris County, with a local expert serving as your guide.

  • Betsy Schuyler and Alexander Hamilton: A Match Made in Morristown. Saturday, Oct. 7 and Saturday, Oct. 14, both at 10 a.m.
  • Ghostly Revelations at the Ford Mansion. Saturday, Oct. 28 at 10 a.m. in Morristown.

Book Early to Reserve Your Space. These popular fall hour-long programs are expected to sell out quickly.

The Morris County Tourism Bureau is to be commended for continually offering new ways to discover the history that has made our county so unique, and to do it in a fun and informative way,'' said Morris County Freeholder Christine Myers. "We encourage residents and visitors alike, to take advantage of the rare opportunity to step into the lives of the men and women who made America possible -- and find out about a few ghosts, too.''

During the Revolutionary War, a young and dashing Alexander Hamilton, General George Washington's aide-de-camp at the Ford Mansion, spent the winter and spring in Morristown while his future wife, Betsy Schuyler, was nearby at the home of the Campfields. The Hamilton events will be held on Saturdays, Oct. 7 and 14 at 10 a.m. at the Schuyler-Hamilton House, 5 Olyphant Place, Morristown. Tour size is limited to 30 persons. Cost: $15. There is limited parking on Olyphant Place which is off Morris Avenue between Elm and Ridgedale. Parking also is available at the Morristown Train Station, Lackawanna Place.

The Ford Mansion in Morristown underwent a paranormal study by Gordon Ward, a well-respected investigator of ghosts and hauntings and an author on the topic. This Ghostly Revelations program will include photos, audio recordings, developing theories, and information collected from his study of the Ford Mansion, General George Washington's home for 200 days in 1780, and the Ford family's home for three generations.

Audience members will have a chance to share their ghost stories with Mr. Ward and perhaps get some answers, just in time for Halloween, on their own personal haunting experiences.

Meet in the auditorium of the Washington's Headquarters Museum, 30 Washington Place, Morristown. Cost is $15 per person. Free parking is available in two lots adjacent to the park and along Washington Place.
