Morris County Public Safety Youth Academy Graduates 37 Students

YOUTHS TRAINED IN ALL ASPECTS OF PUBLIC SAFETY DURING WEEK-LONG ACADEMY

The Morris County Office of Emergency Management, in partnership with the Morris County Sheriff's Office and the Morris County Park Police Department, held its fifth-annual Morris County Public Safety Youth Academy from July 31st €“ August 4th.

Thirty-seven cadets graduated from this year's program on Friday, Aug. 4, before a packed auditorium of family and friends at the Public Safety Academy in Parsippany.

Morris County Administrator John Bonanni and Morris County Freeholder Director Doug Cabana attended the graduation ceremony. Morris County Sheriff James M. Gannon was the keynote speaker.

"Each of you graduating today has come away from this experience having enhanced your leadership skills, your inter-personal skills and your self-confidence,'' Freeholder Cabana said to the graduates. "I trust that each of you has also come away from your experience here with a greater understanding and respect for those who are in law enforcement, fire fighting, EMS or OEM occupations.''

With the goal of exposing cadets to all facets of the public safety field, the cadets participated in a variety of training programs and practical scenarios with real-world applications. These activities included: Bleeding Control for the Injured (B-Con) provided by Techline Trauma; "Behind the Bars" Tour of the of the Morris County Sheriff's Correctional Facility; Criminal and Motor Vehicle Law Lecture followed by Practical Motor Vehicle Stop Scenarios.Youth Academy graduation cake(JPG, 102KB)

Also, Morris County SERT/SOG Tactical/Medical Scenarios; Live Fire Operational Training; Defensive Tactics; Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) Response from Police, Fire, EMS, and Emergency Management; Morris County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Section (C.I.S.) Mock Crime Scene; Virtual Firearms Simulator; Educational Opportunities Discussion; and our Morris County Park Police Intoxicated Driver Prevention Program.

Special thanks are offered to all of the partners who helped throughout the week, including Sergeant Allan Griffin of the Parsippany Police Department, Sergeant Paul Carifi, Jr. (RET) of the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy, Patrolman Christian DiGiralomo of the Morris County Park Police, and all of the staff from the various agencies who helped make this year's program a success.
