Cold Weather Delays Work to 2018. But Ridgedale/Hanover Avenue Intersection Will be Completed.

Two of three major intersection re-paving projects scheduled to be done this month by Morris County have been postponed until 2018 due to cold weather.

Work on the busy East Hanover Avenue and Ridgedale Avenue intersection in Hanover and Morris Township is underway, with milling done and paving scheduled on Friday.

However, resurfacing of the county's busiest intersection, at Columbia Turnpike and Park Avenue in the same two towns, is off until the spring.

Also pushed back to 2018 is the resurfacing of the Myrtle Avenue and Wootton Street intersection on Boonton.

County engineers noted concern that cold temperatures, especially during planned evening and overnight work hours, would negatively affect the quality of any resurfacing done at this time.

Whippany Road hanging street sign(JPG, 11KB)While we wanted to get all three intersections done, we were concerned that paving in cold temperatures would have provided substandard results,'' said Freeholder John Cesaro, the county governing board's liaison on roads and bridges. We will tackle the other two intersections as soon as possible in 2018.''

Cesaro noted that contractors were able to complete the resurfacing of a major segment of Whippany Road in Hanover Township to conclude the Board of Freeholders' ambitious 2017 paving schedule.

We'd like to thank county residents, from Lincoln Park to Washington Township and between, for their patience in dealing with the temporary inconveniences caused by our work this year,'' said Cesaro. We hope the better quality of those roads lasts for a long time.''
