Morris County Library: Guest Readers Help Celebrate Dr. Seuss' Birthday
Published on March 07, 2017
Kids at the Morris County Library in Hanover Township were treated to some guest readers last Thursday afternoon in a special 2017 Read Across America program. The event marked the 18th annual celebration of the reading event, and Dr. Seuss's birthday!

Community leaders from across the county were asked to put aside the many hats they wear for work and play and to take out some time to read to our children -- with some donning costumes, including the ultimate reading hat -- the red and white striped stovepipe made famous by Dr. Seuss' Cat In The Hat!
Readers at the Morris County Library included Morris County Freeholder Deborah Smith, Morris County Deputy Administrator Cathy Burd, Morristown Councilwoman Alison Deeb, and Morris County Heritage Commission Executive Director Peg Shultz, among others.
Throughout his career, cartoonist and writer Dr. Seuss ( real name: Theodor Seuss Geisel ) published more than 60 books. His children's books like 'The Cat in the Hat' and 'Green Eggs and Ham' were some of his most famous works. He died in 1991 at the age of 87 but his books, stories, and tongue twisting words have lived on. For example:
I meant what I said
And I said what I meant...

On Equality and Justice
I know, up on top
you are seeing great sights,
But down at the bottom
we, too, should have rights.

On Being True to Yourself
You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
You're on your own.
And you know what you know.
And YOU are the guy
who'll decide where to go.
