Morris County Hunger: Interfaith Food Pantry Requests Holiday Food Donations

PUTTING TOGETHER HOLIDAY FOOD BASKETS FOR THE NEEDY FOR THANKSGIVING -- NOW

The Interfaith Food Pantry of Morris County is seeking donations to help with its annual Thanksgiving Basket Program, which provides turkeys and other items for a complete Thanksgiving meal to Pantry clients and to other Morris County agencies.

Interfaith Food Pantry sign(PNG, 6KB)According to Pantry officials, they supplied more than 1,600 Morris County families with turkeys and bags of Thanksgiving food last year. And the need has not declined.

"There is always a need to help families in Morris County who are hungry and who may be suffering through some lean times,'' said Freeholder Kathy DeFillippo, the county governing board's liaison on human services issues. "The freeholders encourage all of our residents to help give these families a helping hand, especially during the holidays.''

The Food Pantry is requesting items such as fresh or frozen turkeys, hams, and chickens, stuffing, instant potatoes, turkey gravy, canned fruits and vegetables, and other items that will help complete the holiday meal bags. A complete list of need items can be found on www.mcifp.org. Financial contributions and supermarket gift cards are also welcome.

Distribution of turkeys and Thanksgiving items will begin on Nov.1 and continue until Nov. 21. In addition to accepting individual donations, local companies, houses of worship, schools and youth organizations and civic groups are being encouraged to host turkey and food drives to assist with this effort.

Donations may be dropped off at the Interfaith Food Pantry and Resource Center which is located at 2 Executive Drive, Morris Plains, NJ 07950 (at the entrance to Central Park of Morris County on the former Greystone site) on Monday €“ Thursday from 9:30am-4:30pm.

Extended hours will be offered as the holiday draws closer. The full schedule, directions, and a list of needed items can be found on the Pantry's website at www.mcifp.org.
