The images we have seen of the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis are troubling, and we understand the hurt and anger felt by the African-American community across the nation and here in Morris County.(PNG, 53KB)
It is imperative that residents of every race and ethnicity are treated with fairness, dignity and respect. There is no place in our society for actions such as those that occurred last week in Minneapolis.
As leaders of our county, we have a responsibility to ensure to the best of our ability that all residents are treated as valued citizens, that their rights and liberties are fully respected. We mourn the loss of George Floyd, in solidarity with our neighbors, and ask that the justice system deal swiftly and properly with his death.
In closing, George Floyd and his family are in our thoughts and prayers, and the prayers of all Morris County residents. God rest his soul.
