Morris County 2019 Public Safety Youth Academy -- Apply Now

Published on March 06, 2019

The Morris County Board of Freeholders and the Morris County Office of Emergency Management are pleased to announce that applications for the seventh annual Morris County Public Safety Youth Academy program will be accepted from now through Friday, April 19.

The Academy is a five-day program open to all Morris County residents entering grades 9€“12 in the fall of 2019. This program is sponsored by county government and is completely free of charge to the cadets.

Our team seeks to provide cadets with hands-on experience in the public safety field, introducing students to real-world concepts that occur every day in this profession. To achieve this mission, the Academy is uniquely designed to expose cadets to the professions of Police, Fire, EMS, and OEM.

Our team will be joined by Morris County's top public safety professionals throughout the week, who will serve as instructor's in our multi-faceted training sessions.

The Academy is an extremely fun, rewarding, and challenging experience. Our Youth Academy is in high demand and once someone is accepted and agrees to participate, that admitted cadet takes the place of another willing and hopeful applicant. As such, both parents/guardians and applicants should review this entire application carefully, and apply to the program with a full understanding of what is required of every cadet.

The curriculum consists of educational activities, physical training, and real-world scenarios. The structure of the academy is similar to what actual police and fire academy recruits experience. Our objective is to educate cadets about public service including law enforcement, emergency services, fire, and emergency management. The daily physical training is similar to a boot camp cardio workout; there will be running and calisthenics.

The success attributed to this program is due to the full participation of our cadets and the instructors. Each cadet is required to attend every day of the program, which will be held at the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy, 500 West Hanover Avenue, Morristown, N.J. 07960.

This year's program will be held the week of July 22nd (Mon-Fri July 22-July 26) from 8:30 am€“4:30 pm daily. Cadets are expected to be dropped off and picked up on time. Lunch will be provided. Cadets with special dietary needs or allergies may bring their own lunch if they choose to do so. Refrigeration will be available.
