The program was implemented to divert the plastic wrap material from being dumped in landfills. However, due to challenging recycling markets and other factors, the county MUA no longer can offer this program to county boat owners and marinas.

Unfortunately, there are no local markets to recycle this material, which is not a state-mandated recyclable. Residents who use boat shrink wrap are urged not to put the material in recycling containers.

Also, the county MUA asks boat owners not to leave boat shrink-wrap or any other waste materials at Lee's County Park Marina, as this would be considered illegal dumping.

The program originally was funded by a grant from the state. which ended its financial support of the program in 2010. The MCMUA footed the bill up until last year.Morris County Park Commission logo: Enjoy the Experience

The website of the Lake Hopatcong Regional News offers some ideas on how to re-purpose the material.
