Highlands Council Sets Public Hearings on Redevelopment Designation

Six Public Hearings, Including Two in Chester on Jan. 22

The state Highlands Council has scheduled six public hearings to solicit public comment concerning draft procedures for the designation of Highlands Redevelopment Areas.(PNG, 6KB)

These areas, which typically contain outdated or underutilized land uses, could be designated for redevelopment compatible with the Highlands Regional Master Plan.

The draft Procedures for Highlands Redevelopment Area Designation document details the requirements and criteria individuals and municipalities must use to apply to have an eligible location designated as a Highlands Redevelopment Area.

Following the comment period, the Highlands Council will incorporate the final procedures within the Highlands Regional Master Plan.

Public Hearing dates and copies of related material are available on Highlands Council website. Written comments may also be submitted to comments@highlands.nj.gov by February 11, 2109.

Members of the public are invited to provide comments on the draft Redevelopment Area Designation Procedures at the public hearings listed below. No pre-registration is required, but space is limited. Attendees will be asked to sign in.

The Highlands Council is a 15-member appointed body tasked with implementation of the New Jersey Highlands Water Protection and Planning Act of 2004. The Highlands Council is advised in its actions by its Executive Director, who serves as the chief administrative officer of the Council. The Executive Director is assisted by and oversees the operations of a professional staff of planners, science experts, geographic information specialists and administrative personnel, based in Chester.
