Freeholders Proclaim October Arts and Humanities Month in Morris County

Goal is to Encourage Exploration of the Arts Across Morris County
The Morris County Board of Freeholders has proclaimed October as Arts and Humanities Month 2019 in Morris County, part of a national observance held each October to encourage residents to explore new facets of the arts and humanities in their lives, and to begin a lifelong habit of active participation in the arts.
The freeholders issued an Arts and Humanities Month 2019 proclamation to Tom Werder, Executive Director of Morris Arts, and to Lynn Siebert, Director of Arts Participation & Communications for Morris Arts.

They were joined by arts leaders from across Morris County at the Oct. 7 event in support of the proclamation which also coordinates with National Arts and Humanities Month, a coast-to-coast collective celebration of culture in America organized every October by the national organization, Americans for the Arts, and comprising the largest annual celebration of the arts and humanities in the nation. The Arts play an important part in all facets of our personal and professional lives, and are of great importance in business and government and education, enhancing our quality of life across Morris County,'' said Deputy Morris County Freeholder Director Heather Darling.
During this month, arts organizations in Morris County and across the state and nation plan and develop events, celebrations and innovative programming to highlight the Arts and Humanities.
The arts are food for the soul. They help us interpret every day life and give us hope for tomorrow,'' said Morris Arts Executive Director Werder. In Morris County, arts are also an economic driver, a $30 million annual industry that employs more than a thousand people.
National Arts & Humanities Month was established in 1993 and initiated to encourage Americans to explore new facets of the arts and humanities in their lives, and to begin a lifelong habit of participation in the arts and humanities.

National Arts and Humanities Month's four goals are to create a national, state and local focus on the arts and humanities; encourage participation of individuals nationwide; provide an opportunity for federal, state and local business, government and civic leaders to declare support for the arts and humanities; and to raise public awareness.
There are a wide variety of arts and cultural event and exhibits scheduled for Morris County in the coming weeks. For example, Kenny G, Trombone Shorty, Joan Jett, Kip Moore, and even Family Feud Live are scheduled at the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown. Also, check of the upcoming performances at the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, the Morris Music Men, Morris Museum, and the Morristown National Historical Park, among others.
