Freeholders Proclaim May as Older Americans Month in Morris County

The Morris County Board of Freeholders has proclaimed May as Older Americans Month in Morris County, urging all county residents to respect the continuing value of our older community and to take steps to include them in activities and seek out their knowledge when making key decisions.

Deputy Freeholder Director Heather Darling presented a proclamation for Older Americans Month to Christine Hellyer, director of the Morris County Office on Aging and Disabilities, at the board's Monday, May 6, work session in Morristown.
"We acknowledge the many valuable contributions made to Morris County by older adults, who enrich our community through their diverse life experiences," said Freeholder Darling. "We recognize the importance of bringing together all generations and engaging in activities to promote mental, physical and emotional well-being of our older residents." (View the YouTube video)
During this month, the Board of Freeholders is stressing the county's commitment to supporting older adults, their families and their caregivers.

As volunteers, employees, employers, educators, mentors, advocates, and more, older citizens offer insight and experience that benefit the entire community. Communities across Morris County's 39 towns are that encouraged to support and recognize older adults.
Every county resident is asked to take time during this month to recognize older adults and the people who serve them as essential and valuable members of our community. Take steps to Promote Independent Living for seniors; Involve Older Residents in community events; and Provide Opportunities for them to work, volunteer, lead and mentor.
