Freeholders Plan 2020 County Roads Upgrades in Kinnelon, Randolph and the Mendhams

Morris County has targeted deteriorated roads in Kinnelon, Mendham Borough and Mendham Township, and Randolph for 2020 improvements and resurfacing, and will keep close watch on those roads during the winter season for any needed interim repairs.(JPG, 469KB)

Kinnelon Road, which stretches 4.4 miles from the Boonton Township border to Route 23, likely will be upgraded in the summer of 2020.

In addition to repaving, the borough has requested that a pedestrian improvement between Fayson Lakes Road and Ricker Road be incorporated into the project.

The planned pedestrian path would run parallel to Kinnelon Road in the area that includes Kinnelon High School, the Kinnelon Public Library, and the borough's municipal complex.

(JPG, 263KB)In Mendham Borough and Mendham Township, the county anticipates making improvements to Hilltop and Bernardsville roads (one continuous road but the name changes at the municipal border) an early 2020 project.

Utility work performed earlier this year by the New Jersey American Water Company has resulted in uneven pavement on that roadway, which runs from Main Street to the Somerset County line.

However, the portion of the road disturbed by the utility project must completely settle before it can be resurfaced. During the interim months, the county and utility company will continue to assess the pavement and make necessary repairs, when required.

We know that residents in those towns have inquired about getting their roads repaired and brought up to the standards we expect in Morris County,'' said Freeholder Stephen Shaw. We want to let you know that we are aware of the situation and intend to make upgrades to those roads as soon possible in 2020.''

In Randolph, portions of Quaker Church Road and Randolph Avenue are in line for spring resurfacing. They were expected to be the final two projects of the county's 2019 paving season but work had to be delayed because the weather turned too cold to do optimum quality paving.

Contracts have been awarded for the Randolph projects, with an April 15, 2020, contractual deadline to get the work done €“ weather permitting.

Morris County recently completed its 2019 road paving effort with some 31 miles of roads getting new surfaces and other improvements as part of the Board of Freeholders emphasis on maintaining a top-quality road infrastructure in the county.
