Freeholders Honor Morris High School Students Elected to Statewide Student Council

The Morris County Board of Freeholders this week honored four exceptional Morris County high school students who have been elected as 2017 statewide officers of the New Jersey Association of Student Councils.

Students awarded county certificates from the Freeholder Board on Monday, May 8, to honor their elections to their prestigious statewide positions included:

  • Clair Donahue, Morris County School of Technology, vice president;
  • Khalid Alzubi, Parsippany High School, treasurer;
  • Sofia Harty, Kinnelon High School, executive member of publications;
  • Karan Chauhan, Parsippany Hills High School, State Board of Education representative (Chauhan could not attend the May 8 event).

Lou Miller, Executive Director of the N.J. Association of Student Councils, accompanied the students to the freeholders' event.

This is yet another example of the terrific young people we have here in Morris County, who excel at academics and sports and community activities, and who are future leaders in their towns, our county, state, county and nation,'' said Freeholder Director Doug Cabana. It is a pleasure to meet them and highlight their accomplishments.''

Since 1927, the New Jersey Association of Student Councils has been at the forefront of student leadership and issues.

NJASC is dedicated to helping middle school and high school student councils be more active and engaged in their schools and communities.

NJASC's annual convention is one of the largest student council conventions in the world.In January, some 2,000 student-leaders from throughout the state met and elected statewide representatives to the NJASC Executive Board and the New Jersey State Board of Education.
