Freeholders Honor CCM Students Named to the State All-Academic Team

The Morris County Board of Freeholders this week honored two County College of Morris students who have been named to the New Jersey All-State Academic Team based on exceptional educational achievements and contributions to the community.

Spyridoula Fontinis of Roxbury and Michael Gosden of Rockaway Borough accepted county certificates from the Freeholder Board on Monday to honor their selection to the Academic Team.

Fontinis also was chosen as a 2017 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Gold Scholar

These are exceptional young people who have excelled in the classroom and also are making a difference in their communities,'' said Deputy Freeholder John Cesaro, who presented the student with county certificates. They are obviously future leaders of our county, state and nation.''

We're very proud that Spyridoula and Michael have been selected for these honors, said Anthony J. Iacono, president of CCM, who attended the county ceremony. Both are exceptional students who have developed an outstanding academic record at CCM while offering their talents and skills to benefit others.

Fontinis and Gosden were selected for the All-State Academic Team by the New Jersey Council of County Colleges based on their academic records and participation in the CCM chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society.

An exercise science major, Gosden is president of the CCM Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. He began his community service work as teen, when he assisted in local park clean-up projects.

Following graduation from CCM in May, he plans to earn his bachelor's degree in exercise science with a focus on physical therapy.

Along with excelling academically, Fontinis has traveled the world as a community service participant with the Eastern Orthodox Church.

Her first mission project, at age of 17, was in Kenya assisting school children. During her 2017 spring break, she spent her time in Romania working with orphans.

She also has helped to build houses in Mexico and assisted with a homeless shelter in Cleveland.

Following graduation from CCM in May, she plans to earn her bachelor's degree in international studies with the goal of building a career in global service work.
