Freeholders Call Attention to Multiple Sclerosis During MS Awareness Week in Morris County

The Morris County Board of Freeholders offered support this week to the county residents and and their families who are living with the effects of multiple sclerosis (MS), and thanked the MS community which is working to support these residents and families while continuing the search for a cure for this debilitating disease.

"This disease knows no boundaries. People across the world, across our state, and residents right here in Morris County are affected. That is why we are taking time today to call attention to MS, during MS Awareness Week from March 5-11,'' said Freeholder Director Doug Cabana.

"We are offering our support to our residents who are working hard to address the challenges of MS and to seek a long-term solution,'' added Freeholder Kathy DeFillippo, who has long been active in the effort to battle MS.

Multiple sclerosis is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the body and the brain.(PNG, 5KB)

The cause of MS is still unknown. Scientists believe it is triggered by an as-yet-to-be-identified environmental factor in each person who is affected.

The progress and severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot be predicted. Most people are diagnosed between ages 20 and 50, with more women diagnosed than men.
