Freeholder Director Addresses Morris County Business Community -- Vows to Hold Line on Taxes

Morris County Freeholder Director Deborah Smith addressed the 99th Annual Meeting of the Morris County Chamber of Commerce today at the Hanover Marriott hotel, pledging that county government would continue to work closely with the business community and would strive to prevent county tax increases.

In her remarks, Freeholder Smith noted that Morris County is home to 800 company headquarters and has more than 28,000 businesses that employ 390,000 people, with a gross regional product of $60 billion, which is larger than the GRPs of five states.
It also is fortunate, she said, to be a magnet for high paying jobs in the professional, scientific and life science professions, and is home to Fortune 1,000 and Fortune 500 companies.
"We value that success and pledge to continue to work hard to champion a thriving business community and business-friendly environment," said Smith. "That collaboration with business, in fact, has helped make Morris County the Number One County in New Jersey, by far,'' she added.
In addition, she announced that the Morris County Board of Freeholders plans to introduce a budget in the very near future that "will not result in any tax increase to existing taxpayers in 2020.''

The Annual Meeting featured keynote speaker Linda Bowden, New Jersey Regional President of PNC Bank, who shared her insights on the "Leadership Evolution: Empowering Others to Achieve Excellence." Trish O'Keefe of Atlantic Health System, and who is Chair of The Board of the Morris County Chamber, also addressed the large crowd, while Chamber Executive Director Meghan Hunscher offered state-of-the-Chamber comments.
In addition, Raymond Nisivoccia, a partner in Nisivoccia LLP was presented with the Huber Award, sponsored by Saint Clare's Health, in recognition of his many years of service and contributions to the Morris County community.
