Urges Support for Childhood Victims of Sexual and Physical Abuse
April is Child Abuse Awareness Month and Deirdre's House (www.deirdreshouse.org), which is the Center for Morris County's child victims, is urging the county community to get actively involved to support child victims of sexual and physical abuse.
During April, Maria Savettiere, Executive Director of Deirdre's House, is urging county residents to support local child advocacy centers, like Deirdre's House.
She suggested help could come in the form of making monetary donations to fund forensic interviewing, medical, and clinical counseling services for child victims, or by attending fundraising events, donating healthy individually wrapped snacks and small water bottles, or volunteering.
During April Child Abuse Awareness Month, Deirdre's House will raise awareness around the issue of child sexual and physical abuse with the following events:
- An Open House at their Morristown facility on Monday, April 15, from 10 a.m. to noon. Please RSVP to 973-631-5000, if you plan to attend.
- A fundraising and awareness campaign called Be the Change for Children, a month-long initiative in which Deirdre's House will place fundraising jars at locations throughout the community to raise funds and awareness.
- A Wine and Whiskey Tasting event to be held at the Morristown Hyatt on April 5. This event is co-sponsored by Wine and Whiskey Country. Click here to register.
Founded in 1994, Deirdre's House, is the leading resource for children in Morris County who have suffered abuse, neglect or witnessed domestic violence.
It is the only site in Morris County where a child victim can be interviewed and video recorded by law enforcement, medically examined and treated, and clinically counseled in English and Spanish, all free-of-charge and all under one roof.
