Major repairs to a heavily used bridge on Ridgedale Avenue in Hanover Township, near the Walmart shopping center, should be completed by the end of the day tomorrow (June 26), several weeks ahead of schedule.

Road milling and paving work that began today should be completed on Tuesday. Traffic is expected to be restored to its original pattern by Tuesday evening on the bridge that crosses a tributary to the Whippany River at the junction with Frederick Place.

Construction on the $1.3 million project began last September, with a mid-summer completion estimate. The contractor for this project is Colonnelli Brothers of Hackensack.

We know this was an inconvenience to local residents for many months, but it had to be done to ensure the safety of our residents who use that road,'' said Freeholder John Cesaro, the county governing board's liaison on county road and bridge work. We thank local residents for their patience.''

County bridge number 1400-376 dates to 1974 and carries about 24,400 vehicles each day on a route that connects Route 10 and Morristown. Inspection of the span showed deterioration and severe rusting in the beams and numerous cracks in the deck.

The new bridge is comprised of steel beams and a 4-bar painted bridge railing. As part of the project, the traffic signal at Frederick Place has been upgraded.
