Celebrate Fourth of July in Morris County at "Revolutionary Times''

FIREWORKS, REENACTMENTS, MUSIC, HISTORY AND FREE ADMISSION TO THE NATIONAL PARK
For the fifth consecutive year, Morris County will have an authentic, patriotic 2017 Fourth of July celebration just the way the Founding Fathers might have imagined it, with the return of Revolutionary Times.
(JPG, 59KB)The schedule of events spans this Saturday, July 2 through Monday, July 4, a period during which Morristown National Historical Park will be open for free to the public in honor of their centennial and the July 4th holiday.
This is a great opportunity to have a fun and meaningful celebration of our national Independence Day,'' said Morris County Freeholder Director Doug Cabana. There's no better place to celebrate the history of the birth of our nation than right here in Morris County, which played a pivotal role in that history.''
On Sunday, July 2, the Morristown National Historical Park will offer free concerts, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., at Washington's Headquarters on the lawn behind the Ford Mansion (30 Washington Place, Morristown). The Old Barracks Fife and Drum Corps will perform. Bring blankets and lawn chairs for the concert. A rain location will be on-site in the Washington's Headquarters Museum auditorium.
Also on Sunday (July 2), there will be a 2:30 p.m. hike to a Revolutionary-era powder mill from the Morristown Historical Society's Acorn Hall (68 Morris Ave, Morristown).

On Tuesday, July 4, the Hanover Township Landmark Commission offers a free tour of its 1718 Burying Yard located off of Route 10 East in Whippany. This one-hour tour will highlight people who first settled Morris County and are buried in the cemetery.
(JPG, 22KB)At noon on July 4, on the Morristown Green, costumed interpreters will read the Declaration of Independence, an annual Morris County tradition. Audience participation is encouraged. There will be music, a musket salute and free historical walking tours of the Presbyterian Church sanctuary (57 East Park Place, Morristown) and Colonial-era graveyard, est. 1733. In case of rain, the event will move indoors to the Presbyterian Church, 57 East Park Place, Morristown.
The Morristown National Historical Park will be open to the public for free from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors will be able to view a special National Park centennial exhibit, as well as the museum and Ford Mansion at the Morristown unit of the park.
