COVID-19: Governors' Executive Order on Daycare, Organized Sports, Day Camps, and Horse Racing

Gov. Phil Murphy today has announced Executive Order No. 149 to allow the resumption of daycare for all residents, resumption of organized sports, and the opening of summer youth camps and recreational programs over the next month.

He also announced that horse racing can resume immediately at racetracks in the state, but with NO in-person attendance at this time.

They following can RESUME over the next several weeks if they follow health and safety safeguards:
  • Child care centers can reopen on June 15;
  • Non-contact organized sports activities can restart on June 22, but only outdoor sports and with NO contact drills allowed.
  • Youth day camps, including municipal summer recreational programs, can begin on July 6.

The Governor said the state Department of Health will provide specific guidelines for camps, sports, and child care reopenings.

"We want you to have an active summer with your friends, playing the sports that you love, but at the same time while protecting your health,'' Gov. Murphy said at his daily briefing this afternoon.
