COVID-19: Gov Approves Outdoor Dining, In-Store Shopping, Reopening Salons and Barbershops -- June 15 and 22

Beginning June 15 and 22, with Required Health Protocols

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy today announced the start of Phase Two of the state's COVID-19 recovery plan, with outdoor dining and in-store retail shopping to be allowed, at maximum 50 percent capacity, starting on Monday, June 15, which is the same day childcare centers may reopen. Barbershops and hair salons can reopen on Monday, June 22.

He also said that a decision on the reopening of gyms and health clubs will be made in the near future. The governor said health officials were continuing to work on safety protocol guidance for those businesses.

The Governor said those steps are possible due to continued positive results regarding the numbers of cases of COVID-19 and deaths caused by the virus.

"Public health equals economic health,'' said Gov. Murphy, who cautioned that a healthy reopening of the economy can only occur if state residents continue social distancing, use of face coverings, and aggressive hand washing, all tactics that have effectively reduced the virus's curve in the state.

Specific rules and regulations for restaurants, retail stores, and salons/barbershops soon will be release by the state Department of Health to gfiove business owners time to prepare for reopening, he said.
