CCM Faculty Selected to Take Part in National Institutes on Student Success

A total of 10 faculty members and two deans from County College of Morris (CCM) have been selected by the Association of American Colleges & Universities (AAC&U) to take part in two of its student success institutes this summer.

The first program, the Institute on High-Impact Practices and Student Success, takes place June 24 €“ June 27 at Boston University. The second, the Institute on Integrative Leaning and Signature Work, takes place July 11 €“ July 14 at Loyola University Chicago.

It is a great honor and another step forward in CCM's ongoing development as a high-quality institution to have our deans and so many of our professors selected to take part in these institutes, said Dr. Anthony J. Iacono, CCM president. Through their participation, CCM will be even better equipped to develop learning approaches that best prepare students for ongoing success.

Participation in the AAC&U institutes was decided through a competitive process that required colleges and universities to submit an application detailing what they plan to accomplish through their attendance.

In their application materials, Dr. Bruce Dutra, dean of the Division of Liberal Arts, and Patrick Enright, dean of the Division of Business, Mathematics, Engineering and Technologies, noted that CCM's chief aim is to identify additional teaching practices that can further benefit student learning. As part of that, the college will be developing an Honors Program, instituting new teaching practices to increase graduation and transfer rates, and encouraging even greater interactions between faculty and students.

Dutra will be attending the Institute on Integrative Learning and Signature Work and Enright will be attending the Institute on High-Impact Practices and Student Success. Faculty from a range of disciplines and at different stages in their teaching careers, ranging from new to tenured professors, will be joining them.

Selected to take part in the institutes are Professor Diana Aria, psychology/education; Dr. Teresa Birrer, biology/chemistry; Professor Mark Cosgrove, culinary arts; Dr. Karen Danna, sociology; Professor Keri Flanagan, biology/chemistry; Professor Laura Gabrielsen, English; Dr. Kristen Nelson, psychology; Professor Brian Oleksak, landscape and horticultural technology; Dr. Marcia Picallo; languages; and Dr. William Solomons, criminal justice.
