All Morris County Residents Invited to 5K Run in Wharton Dedicated to U.S. Armed Forces

EVENT IS THIS SUNDAY

The Wharton Municipal Alliance is hosting a 5K Camouflage Color Run on Sunday, Sept. 24. This year's run is dedicated to the men and women now serving or who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

An obstacle course will be part of this year's walk/run. The obstacle course will be run by the U.S. Army National Guard. Participation in the obstacle course is optional. There also is a one-mile Fun Walk.

The 5K Race in Wharton is a USATF certified course. The race start and finish will be at the Alfred MacKinnon Middle School located at 137 E. Central Ave., Wharton, NJ 07885

Organizers of the Wharton event have requested assistance from the U.S. Marines & U.S. Army National Guard to include their rock climbing wall for participants, to provide some personnel to assist with the obstacle course, and to provide some military vehicles as part of the finish line.

The American Legion Post 91 Color Guard will be on hand for opening ceremonies. The Post also has invited all participants to join them at the post for hot dogs and birch beer afterwards.

All proceeds from the run are used to help fund drug-and alcohol-free events our middle schools in Rockaway Township, Rockaway Borough, Denville and Wharton, as well as both Morris Hills High School and Morris Knolls High School.
