Morris County Sheriff's Office Hope One Mobile Recovery Vehicle Goes To Jersey Shore for 'Plunge For Recovery'

The Morris County Sheriff's Office Hope One mobile substance abuse recovery vehicle traveled to Asbury Park Saturday, Feb. 16, to participate in Daytop New Jersey's first "Plunge For Recovery" to assist people struggling with opioid addiction pay for treatment.

A premier treatment facility based in Mendham, Daytop brought in more than $50,000 raised in pledges by hundreds of supporters who dashed into the frigid Atlantic Ocean at the 4th Avenue Beach.

Launched on April 3, 2017, by Morris County Sheriff James M. Gannon, Hope One brings resources, treatment information and Narcan training to communities and people in a non-judgmental way. Hope One's staff has made contact with more than 6,000 individuals since its inception and the program is the model for Hope One Newark, which launched in December.

Morris County Sheriff's Officer Travis Somerville and Kelly LaBar, a peer recovery specialist for Morris County CARES, manned Hope One at Asbury Park.
