Morris County Sheriff's Office Bureau of Corrections Corporal Deanna Cucci Retires After Stellar 25-Year Career

Morris County Sheriff's Office Bureau of Corrections Corporal Deanna Cucci retired April 30th after a stellar 25-year career that included arranging a myriad of volunteer programs for inmates and helping to oversee the Sheriff's Labor Assistance Program (SLAP).

Corporal Cucci, who grew up in Montville Township and joined the Sheriff's Office in 1995, was tearful when she said she will miss the fellowship between Officers and the opportunity to work with hundreds of volunteers who brought AA, NA, religious observance, anger management, and other programs to Morris County Correctional Facility inmates.
There's a lot of very good people here, Corporal Cucci said. I liked what I was doing here and the Morris County Sheriff's Office has always been good to me and my family.
Because of social distancing requirements, Corporal Cucci was given a modified honor walkout by fellow Officers inside the Correctional Facility on Thursday. Morris County Sheriff James M. Gannon, Bureau of Corrections Undersheriff Alan J. Robinson, Bureau of Law Enforcement Undersheriff Mark Spitzer and Correctional Facility Warden Chris Klein were among several dozen Officers who thanked and gave best wishes to Corporal Cucci before she departed the Correctional Facility for the last time as an Officer.
We wish Corporal Cucci all the best in the years ahead and thank her for giving 25 years of loyalty and hard work to a profession that can be emotionally and physically challenging, Sheriff Gannon.

Corporal Cucci said she plans to relax over the summer and will likely apply to be a school bus driver since she received her commercial driver's license after working in the SLAP division for nearly 12 years. Inmates who are court-ordered to work on SLAP in lieu of serving sentences in the Correctional Facility save taxpayers, municipalities and non-profit organizations thousands of dollars by making repairs, landscaping, and clearing public areas and lake beds of litter and debris.
Corporal Cucci has done a phenomenal job with everything she's been asked to do, Warden Klein said.
Corporal Cucci said she always was interested in a law enforcement career and was hired by the Sheriff's Office in 1995 to work in the now-defunct jail in Morristown that was replaced in 2000 by a state-of-the-art facility in Morris Township.
She earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from William Paterson College before she started at the Sheriff's Office, and successfully completed the Basic Corrections Course requirements at the Passaic County Police Academy.
Corporal Cucci started out assigned to the Women's Wing at the former Correctional Facility and later was assigned to the SLAP program. Around April 2011, she was assigned to oversee volunteer-based programs at the facility.
There's a lot of knowledge walking out the door today, said Bureau of Corrections Lieutenant Michael Schweizer, one of Corporal Cucci's supervisors.
