Darryl Strawberry rocketed to fame as a key member of the 1986 World Champion New York Mets. His fall from the pinnacle of success because of drug and alcohol addiction has been well documented. Now in recovery, Strawberry spends much of his time writing and lecturing about the dangers of addiction from his personal experience. He is an ordained minister who runs several addiction treatment facilities throughout the United States. He brought his message to Memorial Junior School in Hanover Township on October 3. Nearly 100 people, including Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp as well as law enforcement personnel from Morris and Hanover Townships attended the presentation sponsored by the Hanover Municipal Alliance. Strawberry, whose latest book is Don't Give Up on Me, is pictured below along with Prosecutor Knapp (third from left). In front of Strawberry are Joseph Giorgio, Hanover Township administrator, and his wife, Carol Giorgio, Chairperson of the Municipal Alliance. Also pictured are Hanover Committeeman Ace Gallagher and several Hanover Township police officers.
