Rockaway Man Arrested for Distribution and Possession of Child Pornography

Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp and Chief Douglas Scheer of the Rockaway Borough Police Department announce the arrest of 63 year-old Gary J. Firuta, of Rockaway, New Jersey, on charges of Endangering the Welfare of a Child Distribution of Child Pornography, a crime of the second degree, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child Possession of Child Pornography, a crime of the fourth degree.

The acts in question allegedly began in 2011 and came to the attention of law enforcement through a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Firuta was arrested on December 22, 2014, following an investigation conducted by the Morris County Prosecutor's Office Sex Crimes/Child Endangerment Unit and the Rockaway Borough Police Department. The investigation was led by Detective James Bruno of the Morris County Prosecutor's Office and Detective Sergeant Kyle Schwartzman of the Rockaway Borough Police Department.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until he or she has been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
