Published on May 30, 2019

On the morning of May 30, 2019, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp and Acting Chief of Investigations Chris Kimker joined former professional athletes and celebrities, and other local community leaders including Morris County Sheriff James Gannon, Rockaway Township Chief of Police Martin McParland, and Rockaway Borough Chief of Police Conrad Pepperman for the 20th annual Breakfast with the Stars at Copeland Middle School in Rockaway Township. The annual program is the fourth part of the school's continuing Substance Abuse Program created for the eighth grade students, titled Project Positive Choice. This multi-part program was developed by former Rockaway Township Councilman, Les Wexler, over twenty years ago.

The first three phases include speakers from Daytop NJ, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center, a presentation from an individual who has lost a loved one to a drug overdose, and discussions with minimum custody offenders from a State correctional facility who committed crimes in which drugs or alcohol were involved.

Following breakfast and greetings with the entire eighth grade class, celebrities are escorted by two students to different classrooms. In the classrooms, the students have the opportunity to discuss the lives of the celebrities and how they have been able to achieve their successes without having to resort to drugs and alcohol. After the discussions, the students can meet and take pictures with all of the celebrities in attendance.

Prosecutor Knapp stated, It was an honor to be invited back by Les Wexler to Copeland Middle School's Celebrity Day program. The Morris County Prosecutor's Office embraces the importance of educating our youth on good decision making skills. This outstanding program brings in various influencers who can help share information with the students so they can make positive choices.
