Narcotics Task Force Investigation Nets a Handgun, Drugs and Arrests

Acting Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Christoph Kimker and Colonel Patrick Callahan of the New Jersey State Police announce the arrest of Timothy Lyons-Garcia, age 24, and Reyna Michelle Montes, age 18, both of Victory Gardens, New Jersey, by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Special Enforcement Unit/Narcotics Task Force. 

On May 11, 2021, members of the New Jersey State Police (Netcong Station, Troop B Criminal Investigations Office and T.E.A.M.S. North) and the Morris County Narcotics Task Force conducted an operation that resulted in the arrest of both Lyons-Garcia and Montes.  In addition to almost one hundred (100) fictitious pills laced with fentanyl recovered during this investigation, a .32 caliber handgun, over $6,500 in U.S. currency, approximately one half (1/2) ounce of cocaine and drug distribution paraphernalia were recovered.

 

Reyna was charged with:

  • 3 counts of 3rd Degree Possession with Intent to Distribution (cocaine).
  • 2 counts of 3rd Degree Distribution of Cocaine.
  • 3 counts of 3rd Degree Possession of Cocaine.
  • 1 count of 3rd Degree Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substance (Xanax).
  • 1 count of 3rd Degree Distribution of a Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substance (Xanax).
  • 1 count of 3rd Degree Possession of Xanax.
  • 1 count of 3rd Degree Conspiracy to Distribute Cocaine.
  • 1 count of 3rd Degree Conspiracy to Distribute Xanax.
  • 1 count of 4th Degree Possession with Intent to Distribute Drug Paraphernalia.

     

    Lyons-Garcia was charged with:

  • 1 count of 2nd Degree Possession of a Firearm While Committing a CDS Offense.
  • 1 count of 3rd Degree Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine.
  • 1 count of 3rd Degree Distribution of Cocaine.
  • 1 count of 3rd Degree Possession of Cocaine.
  • 1 count of 3rd Degree Possession with Intent to Distribute Fentanyl.
  • 1 count of 3rd Degree Distribution of Fentanyl.
  • 1 count of 3rd Degree Possession of Fentanyl.
  • 4 count of 3rd Degree Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substance (Xanax).
  • 3 count of 3rd Degree Distribution of CDS Xanax.
  • 4 count of 3rd Degree Possession of Xanax.
  • 1 count of 3rd Degree Conspiracy to Distribute Cocaine.
  • 1 count of 3rd Degree Conspiracy to Distribute Xanax.
  • 1 count of 3rd Degree Financial Facilitation (money laundering).
  • 1 count of 4th Degree Possession with Intent to Distribute Drug Paraphernalia.

 

Acting Prosecutor Carroll said, “Through our partnerships with state, county and municipal law enforcement agencies, our Narcotics Task Force has safely removed illicit narcotics and weapons from offenders in Morris County.   The recovery of fentanyl during the course of this investigation is another example of our efforts to curb the impact illegal opioids are having on our community.” 

This is the second illegal handgun recovered by the Narcotics Task Force in the past week.

Acting Prosecutor Carroll thanks the New Jersey State Police, Parsippany Troy-Hills Police Department, Wharton Police Department, Long Hill Township Police Department and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office for assigning personnel to the Narcotics Task Force during this investigation.

This investigation was conducted by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Special Operations Division, led by Captain Jan-Michael Monrad and Chief Assistant Prosecutor Bradford Seabury.  Assistant Prosecutor Matthew Kelly is representing the State in this prosecution.  

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation.  Despite these accusations, the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they have each been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
