Morris County School Safety and Security Summit

The Morris County Prosecutor's Office, in partnership with the East Hanover School District, the New Jersey Department of Education and the Morris County Superintendent of Schools, is sponsoring the upcoming "Morris County School Safety and Security Summit." The Summit will be held on February 26, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy.
The overall wellbeing of our school-age children is of the utmost importance. As we continue to explore ways to create positive and healthy school environments, we recognize that keeping our students safe and our schools secure requires a commitment from all community members. The Newtown, Connecticut school shooting has generated a renewed commitment to these issues. According to East Hanover Township School District Superintendent Dr. Joseph Ricca, Community-wide partnerships and efforts that focus on leveraging all of our support systems, both in the educational community and in the law enforcement community, will further strengthen our school security infrastructure now and in the years to come. The Morris County Prosecutor's Office has been an innovative and committed partner in the on-going effort to be sure that each and every student in Morris County is afforded the opportunity to attend school in a safe and secure environment.
The Summit is designed to promote discussions among all parents, guardians and community members highlighting the efforts that are being undertaken within our schools to keep our students safe. Additionally, it will be an engaging and informative opportunity for the Morris County community members, as guest speakers highlight the complexities of school security in the modern age. Scheduled speakers will include representatives from the Morris County Prosecutor's Office, the New Jersey Department of Education, the East Hanover Township School District, and the Morris School District. Topics for the evening's discussion are to include school climate and culture, facilities preparedness, communication and reporting procedures, identifying the signs of potential challenges, and the State of New Jersey's commitment to our schools.
