Morris County Prosecutor's Office Participates in Overdose Awareness Day

On Wednesday, August 28, 2019, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp and Chief Assistant Prosecutor Bradford Seabury spoke at the 4th Annual Overdose Awareness Day held on the Morristown Green. Prosecutor Knapp was the opening speaker for the event and discussed how the Morris County Prosecutor's Office has partnered with numerous agencies and remains committed to fighting this epidemic. Prosecutor Knapp thanked everyone in attendance for supporting the event and for their work serving those affected by opioid addiction, especially the individuals and organizations that work every day providing treatment and recovery services. Prosecutor Knapp stated, We are committed to fighting this scourge and will continue doing so. Everyone who attended this event must also spread the word to their friends and neighbors.

Following the Prosecutor's remarks, CAP Seabury spoke about the Morris County Prosecutor's Office efforts to, remove for profit drug dealers from the County. Furthermore, CAP Seabury highlighted Prosecutor Knapp's initiation of the Countywide Narcan program in 2014, which has enabled Morris County Law Enforcement to save over 650 overdose victims to date. Through effective prevention, treatment and enforcement, those saved have been given a chance and a pathway to recovery.
During the evening hours, CAP Seabury presented at St. Simons Church in Rockaway Township. During this program CAP Seabury discussed the Heroin and Opioid Epidemic, as well as the measures that the Morris County Prosecutor's Office has taken to combat the epidemic. CAP Seabury was joined by Sheriff James Gannon, Assemblymen Anthony Bucco and Daytop CEO James Curtin, who all highlighted the collaborative efforts and programs working to curb opioid addiction and provide paths to recovery within Morris County.

International Overdose Awareness Day is a global event held every year to spread the message that overdose deaths are preventable. An additional observance is being held on Saturday, August 31, 2019, beginning 8:00 a.m., at CARES Morris County and culminating at Donatoni Community Park in Rockaway Boro.
