The Morris County Prosecutor's Office hosted a training program for all thirty-nine Municipal Counter Terrorism Coordinators (MCTC) in Morris County, as well as School Resource Officers and members of the Morris County Sheriff's Office. The program took place on August 30, 2018 at the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy, and was organized by the Morris County Prosecutor's Office Homeland Security Unit. Speakers for the training included, Morris County First Assistant Prosecutor Tom Zelante, Lieutenant Jan-Michael Monrad, Detective Supervisor Thomas Joiner, Chief Assistant Prosecutor Bradford Seabury, Investigator David Kanig the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness CTC Liaison, and State Critical Infrastructure Coordinators Patrick Owens, Mike Boyle, Nick Kormash, and Joseph Conrey.
The training covered various subjects pertaining to Homeland Security including, protocol on receiving and reacting to Homeland Security reports, Suspicious Activity Reporting (SAR), instruction on how to properly manage emotionally disturbed persons, and a comprehensive training concerning site safety assessments at schools. Attendees also joined a round table discussion covering the various Homeland Security issues affecting their municipalities on a daily basis.
Prosecutor Fredric Knapp said, Homeland Security and Preparedness is an integral part in keeping the Morris County community safe. The Morris County Prosecutor's Office will continue to work closely with the MCTCs, School Resource Officers, and all other members of law enforcement to ensure proper preparedness throughout the county.
