Morris County Prosecutor's Office Attends Morris County Hispanic-American Chamber of Commerce Celebration
Published on August 21, 2018
On Friday, August 17, 2018, the Morris County Hispanic-American Chamber of Commerce (MCHACC) celebrated the 100th birthday of Antonio Cardona, a resident of Morristown since 1972. The celebration served as the initial startup of MCHACC's partnership with the Morristown and Morris Township Public Libraries' initiative to preserve the history of the Morris County's Hispanic culture. Morris County First Assistant Prosecutor Tom Zelante, along with Assemblyman Anthony Bucco, Morris County Clerk Ann Grossi, Morris County Freeholder Heather Darling, and Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty attended the ceremony for Mr. Cardona.
Mr. Cardona moved to Morristown approximately fifty years ago from his native Colombia. He was married to Judith Betancourth de la Pava for over fifty years, and together they had nine children, fourteen grandchildren, and six great-children. The Cardona family settled in Morristown when Antonio began his career at the Morristown Memorial Hospital, where he touched countless lives during his tenure there. Mr. Cardona is representative of the diversity throughout Morris County. As part of this event, it was announced that the Morris County Hispanic-American Chamber of Commerce is working in partnership with the Morristown Public Library with the goal of documenting the large history of the Hispanic Community of Morristown, primarily the oral histories from the 20th century.
First Assistant Prosecutor Zelante presented Mr. Cardona with a letter of congratulations from Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp. The letter expressed the true American spirit that Mr. Cardona has emulated throughout his time as a citizen of Morris County. His contributions to the Hispanic Community in Morristown are a testament to the type of man Mr. Cardona is.
