On March 22, 2019, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp and Morris County Prosecutor's Office Captain Chris Kimker joined the Islamic Society of North Jersey, the Mount Olive Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff's Office and other community leaders for a remembrance vigil for the victims of the New Zealand terrorist attack in Christchurch. The vigil was held at Mount Olive High School.
The vigil was organized by President of the North Jersey Islamic Society Moshin Ansari and Imam Jawad Ahmed. Over 200 residents of Morris County were in attendance to express their support for the Muslim community following the attacks in New Zealand. Prosecutor Knapp's remarks focused on the multitude of tactics utilized by the Morris County Prosecutor's Office and their law enforcement partners to ensure all houses of worship are safe for their congregations.
Prosecutor Knapp stated, The Morris County Prosecutor's Office would like to express our thanks to the North Jersey Islamic Society, Mount Olive Police Chief Stephen Beecher, and Mount Olive Mayor Rob Greenbaum for organizing this event. We have a strong interfaith community here in Morris County and it was shown here tonight. We will not tolerate acts of hate fueled by bigotry, and will continue working with our community partners to ensure people of all religions may practice safely.
