Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp today announced that Atlantic Health System has donated 17 cases€”or 170 doses€”of Narcan® to Morris County law enforcement. Narcan is a life-saving anti-opiate antidote used to counter the effects of an opiate overdose, and can cost a police department approximately $42.00 per dose. The donation of Narcan® will assist police departments in obtaining or restocking their Narcan® supply during fiscally tight budgetary times. Narcan® will be deployed in front-line patrol vehicles to ensure the antidote is administered quickly to individuals suffering from an overdose from heroin or prescription opiates. Atlantic Health System and the law enforcement agencies of Morris County have a common goal to protect the well-being of the people who live in our communities, said Alan J. Robinson Director of Protection and Security Services and Emergency Management for Atlantic Health System. This donation further demonstrates Atlantic Health System's commitment to ensuring the health of our community. Atlantic Health System's donation will benefit the following police departments:
Denville Township
Wharton Borough Narcan has become an important tool for members of law enforcement to use on the front lines of the heroin and opiate epidemic, said Prosecutor Knapp. Since the inception of the Morris County Narcan Program in the summer of 2014, Morris County law enforcement has been able to save numerous lives, providing overdose victims a second chance to seek treatment for their addiction. We greatly appreciate the support of Atlantic Health System and especially Director Alan Robinson for their continuing support and for putting a critical live-saving tool in the hands of law enforcement.
The Morris County Prosecutor's Office recently announced that 42 people were saved in Morris County during 2015 by the administration of Narcan® by police officers.
