Michael Goodson Jr. and Garant Evans Indicted on Weapons Charges

Acting Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp  announces that Michael Goodson Jr.,  26 years old of Spring, Texas and Garant Evans, 32 years of Roselle, New Jersey were indicted today after an investigation revealed that they allegedly possessed firearms and illegal ammunition.   Evans was also indicted for being in possession of a firearm in violation of a state statute prohibiting certain individuals convicted of crimes from possessing a firearm.
On May 17, 2013 at 3:15 a.m., New Jersey State Police responded to a vehicle that was stopped in the center lane of Interstate 80 West in the Township of Denville.  Defendant Evans was the driver and defendant Goodson was the front seat passenger. The ensuing investigation recovered a loaded Taurus .45 caliber handgun from the glove box.  One of the rounds of ammunition in the handgun was a hollow point bullet.                               
Defendants Goodson and Evans were indicted on charges of Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Fourth Degree Prohibited Weapons and Devices.  Evans was also indicted on charges of Second Degree Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons.
The State is represented by Supervising Assistant Prosecutor/SDAG Peter Foy.

The charges and allegations contained in the indictment are merely accusations, and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
